Homemade poppy seed mass. Poppy filling recipe

ground poppy seeds – 350 g;
candied orange peel – 1 flat tbsp. l.
white or brown sugar – 3 flat tbsp. l.
honey – 2 st. l .;
almonds or walnuts – 50 g
almond extract – 2 tsp.
cinnamon – a large pinch
almond flakes (optional) – 2 tbsp. l.
sultana raisins – 1 tbsp. l.
dried cranberries – 1 tbsp. l.
proteins – 3 pcs.

Poppy mass with the addition of a large amount of dried fruits and nuts is actually the basis of a successful poppy pie, cheesecake or rolls with poppy seeds. In my opinion, it makes no sense to compare it with those ready-made canned masses that can be bought in any store.

Homemade poppy seed mass is prepared simply. I usually add candied orange peel, raisins, cranberries, almonds and honey to the poppy seed mass. I used to add dried apricots, plums, and even mixed cookies, but now I think those are unnecessary additives.

Masa can be prepared on the basis of ground or unground poppy seeds. I confess, I usually buy ground poppy seeds in the store or order them online. If you buy unground poppy seeds, you need to boil them for about 25-30 minutes, then strain them and grind them twice in a food processor.

  1. Pour ground poppy seeds (approximately 350 g) into a bowl and pour boiling water over them (the water should cover the entire poppy seed). Mix and leave for at least 1 hour, although you can leave it overnight.
